How We Operate:
The Reciprocity Principle

Value givenValue receivedValue returned

The architecture is public.
The answer is paid.

The principle

Greensight, the Sustainability Guide for Company Directors is a published book. The nine SSRN working papers are public, accessible and citable. This is so things we've learned can create value beyond our boundaries. Our MSME transition tools are free to the firms that need them most. This is value contributed, openly.

What we charge for is the calibrated answer of clear sight, the ability to see through the fog. This may be in a board briefing or the instrument that turns the data behind this work into a number an institution can act on. This value is leveraged by a business, portfolio or exchange.

It is reciprocity. Value given, value received, value returned. Reciprocity is best as a flow.

Success does not require damage. It does not require enclosure either. We have written down how value flows, and we hold ourselves to it.

What we return

When you engage us, we create value for you. We also choose to create value for others.

A day of clean water for every assessment.

Through B1G1, each assessment run through our instruments funds a day of clean water for a person in Asia. This is how the instruments operate, on every assessment, every entity — even for every person who attends every keynote we give. It has been our practice since 2011. So far, we've created over 1.3 million days of water. This is a rule we follow.

Free access for the firms that carry the most exposure and the least capital.

The MSME transition tool is available on a freemium basis. The smallest firms, who sit deepest in the value chain and furthest from the capital, get the assessment and a path forward at no cost. We appreciate the philanthropy and development bank partners that support the infrastructure this requires at scale.

How we hold ourselves to it

This is a rule, not a sentiment, so it is governed like one.

Dated & versioned

B Corp Certified

B Corp certified

Part of what our certification holds us to.

It is referenced in our licence terms and in our methodology governance, not only here. Our operating entity is a certified B Corp, and this principle is part of what that certification holds us to.

A benchmark built on the readiness of Asian entities and small firms should return value to the people whose land, water and labour are the exposure being measured. So it does, on every assessment, whether or not anyone is counting.

Cooler, greener, kinder.

Designed. Deliberate. Delivered.

This is the 2026 version of the Reciprocity Principle. It is reviewed annually and applied consistently across the ESG Institute product suite. It is referenced in our licence terms and our methodology governance.
